Meadowsweet

Meadowsweet Herb, Filipendula ulmaria, is a perennial herb found growing in damp meadows, ditches and bogs, at the edges of ponds, on river banks and in damp open woodlands throughout Europe as well as the eastern United States and Canada. The fragrant Meadowsweet Herb is a well known wild flower, with its fern-like foliage and tufts of delicate, graceful, creamy-white flowers, which are in blossom from June to September.

Meadowsweet Herb is thought by some to possess the qualities of a mild antispasmodic and sedative and considered to be gentler on the stomach than aspirin, due to the natural buffering agents found in the wild crafted herb.

The natural presence of aspirin-like chemicals found in Filipendula ulmaria, is purported to reduce fever and relieve the pain of rheumatism in muscles and joints. This herb may also make an excellent digestive remedy, imparting to the bowels some degree of nourishment, as well as astringency. Meadowsweet Herb is thought to be of some service as a corrector of the stomach, and has been used in affections of the blood.

Meadowsweet Herb is thought to protect and soothes mucous membranes of the digestive tract, by helping to reduce excess acidity while alleviating nausea. Traditional herbal uses include the treatment of heartburn, hyperacidity, gastritis and peptic ulceration. More research is needed to establish the potential efficacy of meadowsweet herb in any of the aforementioned conditions.

Topical applications of wild crafted Meadowsweet Herb include its use as eyewash for conjunctivitis as well as sore eyes.
