Besom brooms are a very old yet important part to your altar tools. Traditionally besom brooms have been used within wiccan weddings where the couple jumps over the besom during the ceremony. This represents the couple -œcrossing the threshhold- into homes to begin their new union together. These besom brooms jumping also represents fertility and domestic harmony and longevity. Ritually and magically, besoms are used for a variety of purposes, but more generally they are used to purify and protect. In rituals besom brooms are used to cleanse sacred space before magick is performed by visually sweeping away negative energies and astral build up.
Besom Brooms can be hung over a doorway to sweep away negativity from a room, or even a whole home depending on where you hang it up. Besoms are often made of  twigs and branches bundled together to form a broom. This is typically the best way to make besom brooms as using fallen logs, branches, and twigs can keep a more naturally and earth based aspect to the besom for your home and rituals.
